Petrol station operator TotalEnergies Netherlands asked the team of Sandenburg-DST to develop from scratch the new bakery and food/shop concept Café Bonjour with the aim to anticipate on the changing consumer needs. This distinctive concept makes a difference in a highly competitive sector.

The concept strategy and vision were developed in partnership with the teams of TotalEnergies Netherlands and Landmännen Unibake. Using insights from consumer research and market analysis to secure that TotalEnergies Café Bonjour was distinctive and future proof.

Typical of the new concept is that the shop no longer evolves around petrol and tobacco, instead placing the emphasis on foodservice and the experience of fresh foods and beverages. Employees have direct contact with their customers; changing the role of cashier to acting as a friendly host serving customers who are treated as guests.

A condition for developing the foodservice design was that the Café Bonjour concept with the new bakery had to be easily integrated in the existing shop interior. Enabling an accessible and costs efficient rollout throughout the Netherlands. In 2019 and 2020 TotalEnergies Café Bonjour was awarded the Foodservice Marketing Award.
